Wake County school bus driver was pulled off the road last week after she delivered an elementary student to the wrong place.

Greg Thomas, a spokesman for the Wake County Public School System, said the 6-year-old student was supposed to be picked up by his mother but got on a bus Tuesday instead.

He was dropped off about three miles from home, but someone picked him up and took him back to school.

The child was not harmed.

The school system said a confluence of factors contributed to the mix-up: the student had a substitute teacher and might have been trying to go home with a friend.

The driver will not be behind the wheel until school officials figure out what went wrong and how to prevent it from happening again.

Thomas pointed out that the driver has no other complaints in her personnel file.
