Public invited to weigh in on plans for future of southern Wake County

Construction in southern Wake County is bringing big changes to the morning commute.

On Thursday we'll see new plans and share their input for the future NC-540 loop, which is just one part of a major development project in the Lower Neuse area of Wake County.

A map released by Wake County shows the area covered in those plans, which borders Knightdale, Wendell and Johnston County. It also includes parts of Raleigh and Garner.

Around 17,000 people live in this area, and it's the fastest growing part of the county.

The Lower Neuse Area Plan is about re-envisioning the future of this area, evaluating what homes, streets, buildings, open spaces, farms and infrastructure will look like decades from now.

“Insight from those who live, work and play in this area is critical as we finalize this plan,” said Susan Evans, vice chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “These are decisions that will impact the area for years to come, so we want residents to continue to play an active role in the process.”

Members of the community are invited to share their thoughts on how that future should look at a meeting on Thursday at Good Hope Baptist Church at 11 a.m.

The plans will be presented to Wake County’s planning board next month.
