Wake Forest picks up a pair of in-state signatures: Sam Neely, Jeremiah Melvin

Two in-state recruits signed national letters of intent with Wake Forest on Wednesday, the start of the early signing period.

Sam Neely, a defensive back from Weddington High School, and Jeremiah Melvin, a wide receiver from Cape Fear High School, both signed with the Demon Deacons.

Neely is a three-star corner at Weddington. On3.com ranks him as the No. 18 player in North Carolina and the No. 37 corner in the Class of 2024 nationally.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Neely recorded 70 total tackles this season, including six tackles for loss. He also posted 22 pass deflections and one fumble recovery in 14 games played.

Weddington won the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state championship.

On the offensive side of the ball, Melvin put up big numbers for Cape Fear. He is the top-rated prospect in Wake Forest's recruiting class.

On3.com and 247Sports.com both rate Melvin as a four-star player, with 247Sports.com ranking him the No. 7 player in the state and the No. 33 wide receiver nationally.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 185 pounds, Melvin caught 54 passes fo 1,014 yards and 19 touchdowns this season for the Colts.
