Speeding, wet roads caused fatal Wake Forest crash

One man died overnight following a single-car crash on Magnum Dairy Road in Wake Forest.

On Saturday around 10:30 p.m., troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the crash near Bold Run Hill Road.

Investigators determined that Christopher John Pier, 38, was traveling north on Mangum Dairy Road in a 2007 Jeep SUV Compass when the Jeep ran off the roadway, striking a concrete bridge and an embankment.

Pier was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Officials cited speeding and wet road conditions as the cause of the crash.

Pier was the only person in the SUV, officials said, and no other cars were involved.
