Walk-in flu vaccine clinics begin Thursday at Wake County Public Health Center

You can now get your flu shot at Wake County’s first walk-in flu shot clinic of the season.

Starting Thursday, you can get your flu shot at the walk-in clinic at the Wake County Public Health Center on Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh.

Medical experts said the flu season is getting started earlier than normal this year and it's important to get this shot before the holidays.

Tina Payton with the county health department said flu season started early and cases started appearing back in August.

Medical experts are recommending that people receive the updated COVID shot and flu vaccine.

New numbers released on Wednesday show flu hospitalizations across the state are down. Nine people were hospitalized as of Sept. 30, compared to 14 the week before. The number of people admitted to the hospital for COVID also went down by 2%.

Payton said now is the right time to get vaccinated.

"We are approaching the time where people are having family gatherings, approaching winter holidays," Payton said. "Now is the perfect time to get it. It takes about two weeks for the immunity to take full effect and get full benefit from the flu vaccine."

It is safe to get both the updated COVID vaccine and flu shot at the same time.

The clinic is located at 10 Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh and is open every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. until Nov. 16.
