Wake County hosting adoption fair in Raleigh this weekend

If you've ever considered adoption, a free event next Saturday in Raleigh aims to help people navigate the process.

Wake County will host an adoption fair on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Wake County Commons Building at 4011 Carya Drive.

Right now, more than 180 children are in the county's care waiting to be adopted, including 90 kids between the ages of 4 and 12 and 39 kids between the ages of 13 and 17.

According to Wake County, older children are often overlooked but are especially in need of families.

The Nov. 18 event in Raleigh aims to debunk common myths like:

  • “Adoption is expensive.”
  • “You have to be the perfect parent and have all the answers.”
  • “You have to be married to adopt.”

"Adoption can sound intimidating, but this event will help take the mystery out of the process and showcase all of the partners, support and rewards that are available to adopters and these deserving children," said Shinica Thomas, Vice Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners.

At the event, people can learn more about the adoption process and talk to families who have already adopted.

You can register for Saturday event on Wake County's website.

Each Tuesday, WRAL News features a child or teenager in foster care. Learn more about the Forever Family segment here.
