WakeMed was operating on restricted access Wednesday, and staff were asked to leave the nearby Wake County Health Department building for a brief period of time.

At 9:30 a.m., there were at least five Raleigh police vehicles at the health department building on Sunnybrook Road. By 10 a.m., police officers were allowing people back inside the building.

A spokesperson from Wake County said the building was locked down after police at WakeMed notified staff about unspecified incident near campus.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we locked down our Sunnybrook building at 9:10 a.m. and asked employees to shelter in place. At 9:39 a.m., we lifted the lockdown after determining there was no risk to our employees or clients," the spokesperson said.

WRAL News is working to learn why the Sunnybrook building was evacuated.

A spokesperson from WakeMed said the hospital was not on lockdown and there was no threat to the community.
