Wake Co. Marine Killed in Training Exercise

A Marine from Wake County was killed in a vehicle accident during a training exercise at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia on Friday.

Lance Cpl. Jeffrey S. Webb, 21, was assigned to 1st Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team Company, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune.

Four other Marines injured in the accident were treated and released from military medical facilities.

Marine Corps officials said the accident is under investigation.

Webb joined the Marines in May 2006 and was trained as an infantryman, before joining 1st FAST Co., in Norfolk, Va., in February 2007. He was promoted to lance corporal on July 1, 2007.

Webb's decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
