Abrams stumps for Biden-Harris ticket at Raleigh campaign stop

Stacey Abrams, a voting rights activist, visited Raleigh on Saturday to tell voters how critical their votes are this year, especially living in a battleground state like North Carolina.

Supporters gathered along Davie Street to hear her speak. She shared her story about losing the Georgia governor’s race in 2018, which energized her even more to talk about the importance of voting. Abrams said exercising the right to vote is how people make their voices heard.

She arrived to a crowd of about one hundred people.

Abrams reminded audience members that regardless of if they’ve voted early or are waiting until Election Day – their vote matters.

"We are confident that if every voter turns out, we will actually go blue," said Abrams. "We know that there have been 4 million votes cast in North Carolina and that the Raleigh area has been essential to that turnout."

She said Biden is fit to handle the COVID-19 health crisis.

"Under the potential leadership of President Joe Biden, we have a real opportunity to turn the corner and have a plan for recovery – but that only happens if we turn out the vote here in North Carolina," she said.

People in the crowd like Vicky Szuflita, a campaign manager for the N.C. Democratic Party, were energized by Abrams' message about voting.

"People are excited. They are ready for change. A lot of the representatives have been in control for the state's last 10 years. We have Trump in control of the country, and we need change," said Szuflita.

Abrams said she knows how critical battleground states like North Carolina are. Biden, along with other surrogates, plan to hit them hard, much like the Trump campaign, in the final days leading up to Election Day.
