People in Carrboro gathered Sunday to honor a woman whose murder has gone unsolved for nearly eight years.

Faith Hedgepeth's body was found at her apartment in September 2012.

At the time of her murder, she was a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dozens of people attended the vigil Sunday at Vecino Brewing.

Along with Hedgepeth, they remembered other Native American women who have died.

"We did everything that we asked her to do. She went to college, she strived to be a good person, she was active in her community, she was part of a sorority. She did all the thing we encourage our young people to do, and she was still taken from us senselessly. So, it's very important that we keep her name out there in their minds and in their mouths," said mistress of ceremonies Kay Oxendine.

The rallying cry at the vigil was "no more stolen sisters."

The group is working to draw attention to the pattern of violence against Indigenous women.
