I have received multiple messages from readers in recent weeks regarding the opening date of the new Target on Six Forks Road in Raleigh.

Back in January 2020, Target announced they were taking over the Kmart location at 8701 Six Forks Road. Just a few weeks later, the last Kmart in the Triangle closed for good.

One of our WRAL Smart Shopper Facebook Page readers, Nancy P., asked about the opening day timeline today so I reached out to the Target corporate office for an update.

A Target spokesperson responded quickly and shared, "I can confirm Target has plans to open a new store in Raleigh. We’re excited to bring an easy, safe and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the community with this new Target store. Located at 8701 Six Forks Road, the store will be approximately 114,000 square feet. As we get closer to opening the store, we’ll have more specific details to share – including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date."

Basically, they aren't ready to share an opening timeframe just yet, but the store is moving right along. From the sounds of it, Target has picked up the pace recently. Nancy indicated: "Work on exterior of building has really accelerated the past 1-2 weeks. Interior looks like large empty shell."

Once Target shares additional details, we'll let you know. In the meantime, you can check the Target website for the location nearest to you.
