UNC student reporter unknowingly participates in emergency drill

A University of North Carolina student reporter covering an emergency drill found himself in the middle of the action this week.

Will Gorham, the managing editor for a campus radio program, was covering the emergency drill at the Outdoor Education Center on Wednesday when a Chapel Hill police officer stuck a rifle in his back during the drill.

Police acknowledge an encounter took place but say that the weapon was not loaded and that the officer mistook the student for an actor in the drill.

Gorham was not hurt in the incident.
