UNC-Chapel Hill student attacked, robbed near campus
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Department of Public Safety is warning students about an armed robbery that happened late Thursday near campus.
A student reported to campus police that he was walking along South Columbia Street near N.C. Highway 54 around 11 p.m. when three men in a gray, late-model Dodge Charger with red lettering stopped him for directions.
When the student approached the car, he said, a man in the back seat pulled a handgun and hit him with it. The three then stole the student's cellphone and wallet before driving away from campus.
Police did not provide a detailed description of the men, but are asking that anyone with information that could help identify them to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.
