"Moulin Rouge The Musical" plays DPAC from May 3-14. Tickets are on sale now.

If you only see one show at Durham Performing Arts Center this year, make it one of these.

Over the summer, Mix 101.5 FM's Diane Ramsey and I went on a trip to see some of the shows head to DPAC this season. We talk about the fun we had on this week's WRAL Out and About Podcast.

It was a great opportunity to hang out with my friend Diane, but also I fell in love with the two shows we saw - "Moulin Rouge" and "Six."

"Moulin Rouge" is obviously based on the movie of the same name. This show is jam-packed with music! There are 70 songs credited to 160 songwriters, administered by 30 publishers, representing over 160 years of music. Expect some really good mashups of songs you know and love.

The central story is the same as the movie. Young composer, Christian, falls in love with Satine, who is the star of the Moulin Rouge. The show literally starts from the moment you walk into the theater. You will see a giant elephant, and dancers roaming the stage.

The music drives this show so much and really helps expand on the characters a bit more. You feel like you are at the Moulin Rouge seeing a show.

Since the success of "Hamilton," history has been a hot Broadway topic. But I can say I was absolutely blown away by the musical "Six." I went into the show knowing that it was about the wives of Henry VIII. I had no idea I was in for a pop concert starring the likes of Anne Boleyn.

"Six" is at DPAC June 20-July 3. Tickets are on sale now.

Each wife has a solo explaining how they ended up married to Henry and what caused the marriage to end. Anne has a really catchy song that references "losing your head."

The only actors in this show are the six wives. They play all the parts and are rarely off-stage. The band, which is made up of all females, is also on stage the entire time.

I left this show feeling like I had been at a concert. It was an adrenaline rush.
