Durham’s Jordan High School was locked down Wednesday for about an hour, but no weapon was found in a check of the campus.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office said the initial report was that there was a student with a gun on campus, and the school was locked down around 11 a.m. However, the sheriff’s office said a school resource officer checked it out and didn’t find a weapon.

A school spokesperson said the lockdown was lifted at 12:08 p.m. Wednesday.

"You’re making all the kids nervous thinking that their life’s in danger,” said senior Sean Giddings.

“It’s normal now,” Giddings said. “I’m not scared of it now. It’s another day.”

It’s the second school lockdown in Durham in as many days. On Tuesday, Northern High School was locked down for nearly 40 minutes. A school spokesperson said someone made a threat against the school, but the nature of the threat is not known.

Jordan High School junior Janiah smith also said some students are used to it, but it frightens others.

“[There] was a girl next to me crying,” Smith said.

Jordan High School student Yosel Escobar reiterated some of the same sentiments as Giddings and Smith.

“They try to do one-up on each other,” Escobar said. “They just try to do anything they can to be one-up and seem like they're real hard.”

In February, authorities found a gun at Jordan High School.
