The House wrapped up its work in advance of Thursday's crossover deadline on Tuesday afternoon, and the Senate isn't expected to hold any late-night sessions to beat the clock either.

Both chambers disposed of dozens of bills Tuesday, ranging from a distracted driving bill that no longer prohibits any specific actions while behind the wheel to regulations on emotional support animals to a skirmish over water rates charged by Henderson to surrounding communities that tap into Kerr Lake.

Outside the chambers, Rep. Josh Dobson, R-McDowell, announced his 2020 candidacy for state labor commissioner. Current Commissioner Cherie Berry, also a Republican, has announced she won't seek another term.
