Trees down, fences damaged after strong storms push through Triangle

Clean up is underway across central North Carolina, even in our own backyard, where a 100-year-old oak came crashing down in the WRAL-TV parking lot on Tuesday, damaging several vehicles.

Fortunately no one was hurt.

Mother Nature left a mark all across central North Carolina Tuesday evening.

Fast-moving storms tore through the Triangle, accompanied by whipping winds and ominous clouds. The aftermath of the storm was seen by homes near Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, where a massive oak tree fell onto the pavement. Another tree fell nearby on St. Mary's Street, blocking traffic for quite some time.

The level one threat of storms also brought hail, and viewers captured ice falling near their homes across central North Carolina.

The Durham County’s Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to residents reminding them to stand back from downed trees as they could be touching live power lines.

Tuesday’s inclement weather also prompted the Fayetteville Woodpeckers baseball team to postpone their game. The Woodpeckers will play a doubleheader on Thursday.
