Trying to teach your kids how to wash their hands properly? The Poe Center has a video for that

As parents, we all do our best to teach our kids how to do things like wash their hands. But as the coronavirus continues to spread around the world, we're all trying to be a lot more diligent in our hand-washing, and we also may have learned that we haven't been doing it right all along. In other words, 20 seconds is a really long time.

But washing our hands is a critical strategy to prevent the spread of viruses like the coronavirus and influenza. And we all should be reinforcing how to do it correctly. That's where the Poe Center for Health Education comes in. It recently shared a step-by-step video that outlines the proper method for effect hand-washing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, learning to properly wash hands is one of the most effective ways to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

"As a leader in preventative health education in NC, hand-washing as an effective form of illness prevention has consistently been a core message in the Poe Center's programs for children and adults. So we are pleased to share our resources to help instruct others on keeping themselves and others protected against the spread of coronavirus, influenza, and other illnesses," said Ann Rollins, executive director of the Poe Center, in a press release.

Rollins said the Poe Center also is making changes to prevent the spread of germs.

"In addition to our regular cleaning practices, hand sanitizer is available throughout the building and staff are sanitizing handles and doorknobs twice each day," she said. "In the event a school or organization is no longer able to travel to the Poe Center for a field trip or program, our staff of health educators are available to bring the program directly to the organization's location."
