Triangle SciTech Expo goes virtual with sessions for all ages about science, technology

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences will host a virtual version of the Triangle SciTech Expo through April 24. It will offer some virtual opportunities for all ages to learn from scientists and technical professionals from universities, organizations and industries about advancements in science and technology.

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences will host a virtual version of its Triangle SciTech Expo through April 24. The free expo features opportunities for kids and adults to learn from scientists and technical professionals from universities, organizations and industries about advancements in science and technology.

The week includes (with descriptions courtesy of the museum):

  • A launch party at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, to watch the NASA/SpaceX Crew-2 Launch, SpaceX´s second fully-crewed astronaut flight, Crew-2. During the program, NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Tony Rice will guide participants through the mission overview starting at 5:30 a.m., with additional commentary leading up to launch at 6:11 a.m. Find out how you can see this launch from your own backyard
  • Unexpected Discoveries at noon, Monday. Sometimes the best solutions aren’t the most expected. Dive into some of the most outside-the-box solutions that scientists have developed or are currently developing. Topics will range from feeding cows seaweed to dumping iron into the oceans to combat climate change.
  • A chance to learn all about ecoExplore and City Nature Challenge, two programs that get you and your family out and about to discover and record the amazing biodiversity all around you.
  • A session called Postcards from Mars at 4 p.m., Saturday, where you'll learn about what the Mars rover Perseverance has been doing since it landed.
  • Guess-a-sketch at 6 p.m., Saturday, an activity that challenges you and your family to predict the unique animals our artists will draw.
  • And a glimpse into the World of the Aye-aye at 2 p.m., Tuesday. The Duke Lemur Center is home to 10 aye-ayes. Learn how video technology is improving animal welfare and research, and meet some of the center’s resident aye-ayes live on camera.
