Get your winter coats ready, cold temps are coming

Central North Carolina has one more day of seasonable fall weather before a cold front blowing out of Canada arrives.

North Carolina is not expected to see the snow that fell across the upper Midwest, but the cold snap coming on Thursday will bring a big change.

"Enjoy the warmth, it's not going to last much longer," WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

Overnight temperatures will range from the mid 40s to the low 50s.

Wednesday will have clear skies and temperatures climbing past 70 degrees.

Then comes the 20-degree plunge.

Thursday's high temperature will be only in the 50s, and then the real cold sets in.

The seesaw of cold air sinking south from Canada will have pushed onto the east coast, and North Carolinians will need to bring out their winter coats.

"This cold air mass is just going to slow down and park itself over our area until Monday and even beyond," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "That seesaw won't tip us back to warm anytime soon."
