Tree crashes through roof of Durham home, couple escapes injury

A massive tree fell on a home in Durham on Saturday afternoon on University Drive.

The tree crashed through the roof, causing debris to fall all over the yard.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene and found a couple inside the home. They had a few cuts and scrapes, but no major injuries.

Matthew Ross was a passenger in a car that drove by when the tree fell. He described the horrifying moment and said he thought he was going to be crushed.

"I was looking down at the time," Ross said. "[I] came up right as the branch landed on the windshield, and she was swerving us out of harms way. We skidded off the road. She missed everything and then saw the tree landed on the house afterwards."

It is not clear what caused the tree to fall.
