'Small little twist' to hotel stays: Tiny house hotel opens Saturday

Want to get away for a few days but don't want to go too far from home? Try a tiny house trip.

River and Twine at Rocky Mount Mills is a 20-unit collection of tiny homes and three one-bedroom, fully furnished guest houses. Each is individual, uniquely designed.

The resort, one of 12 tiny house hotel collections in the country, is available for nightly rental and bookings. River and Twine is the first resort to feature 20 tiny houses built specifically for the site.

Each tiny home is named for a different eastern North Carolina river.

Additional cleaning has been implemented due to coronavirus concerns, plus games, books, record players and hammocks have been removed to reduce the spread of germs.

Rocky Mount Mills has restaurants offering to-go, so you can still eat out.

In addition to Rocky Mount Mills, you can also visit Rocky Mount City Lake and Park and feed the ducks or hike the 3-mile Tar River Trail.

You can also visit Battle Park, the site of the original village of Rocky Mount and where Rocky Mount's first post office was located.

And if you are in the mood to take a trip on the water, check out Tar River Life, which offers kayak or tubing rentals for trips along the Tar River.

Capitol Broadcasting Company, the parent company of WRAL, bought the Rocky Mount Mills property in 2007 to develop into offices and homes and to attract craft beer brewers.
