Arturo Arguijo, 16, was involved in a fatal accident in Apex that killed one person and injured two others.

One person was killed and two others injured Wednesday morning in an accident near Apex High School.

Salud Avellaneda-Marin, 41, of Asheboro, and her two sons were traveling in a Ford Expedition westbound on U.S. 64 at about 10:30 a.m. when a pickup truck, turning onto U.S. 64 from Knollwood Drive, pulled out in front of them, investigators said.

The SUV went through the median and rolled 30 to 40 yards, flipping several times.

None of the five passengers in the truck, which was driven by Arturo Arguijo, 16, was injured.

Avellaneda-Marin and her sons were taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where she died. Her son, Eduardo Ballesteros-Avellaneda, 20, and an infant were listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

Apex police said they believed Arguijo is a student at Apex High School, but were still trying to determine that. He could face charges, but that will be determined by Wake County prosecutors, police said.

The other four passengers in the truck were students, investigators said.

Eastbound U.S. 64 between Laura Duncan and Lake Pine roads was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
