Some schools in VA are using new techniques to decrease students vaping inside local high schools.

In order to get vaping in check, Leesville Road High School in Raleigh is closing half of the bathrooms on campus.

"We have had a continuous problem this school year with alarms being set off as a result of students vaping in the restrooms," Principal Ian Solomon said in announcing the change.

Bathrooms will remain closed through the end of the school year to limit the number of spaces that have to be policed.

"With more than 2600 students that attend Leesville Road High School, this step is one that I have tried to avoid, given the ramifications that this decision will cause," Solomon wrote in a note to the student body. "However, with end-of-year testing and graduation-related events occurring, this course of action must be explored in tandem with our teachers continuing to give up a portion of their planning periods for the remainder of the year to monitor the remaining restrooms we will keep open."

The principal says his staff is working to find a long-term solution so this doesn't happen next school year.
