Today @NCCapitol (July 30): It's quiet...too quiet
Good morning and welcome to Today@NCCapitol for Thursday, July 30. Here's what's going on at the General Assembly.
BUDGET: Leaders in the House and the Senate spent a lot of time talking about the budget Wednesday, just not to one another. With a quick day on the calendar Thursday and the National Conference of State Legislatures' annual summit next week in Seattle, there's little outward sign the honorables are rushing to beat the Aug. 14 deadline when the state's current temporary spending bill runs out.
FIRST UP: The House Finance Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. on a block of seemingly innocuous bills for local governments or those that were requested by state agencies.
SENATE: The Senate meets at 9:30 a.m. and has one bill on its calendar dealing with workers' compensation insurance for truck drivers.
HOUSE: The House has three bills on its calendar, including one that would limit when local governments could regulate farm animals by ordinance.
