Eight vehicles and four homes were hit by gunfire between Nov. 4 and Nov. 7, 2024, along Interstate 40 and near Cary and Raleigh in a string of frightening incidents. One woman was injured, and a man is in custody.
Raleigh police charged Andrew Thomas Graney with multiple felonies, including one count of assault with a deadly weapon and 11 counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or vehicle.

After months of treatment and observations, Graney was ruled incapable of proceeding with trial and commited to Central Regional Hospital for treatment of schizophrenia.

Two vehicles were hit by gunfire.
- Two vehicles were hit in the 1500 block of Trailwood Drive. Shots were fired around 9 a.m. close to University Suites apartments near North Carolina State University. No one was injured.
Four homes and four cars were hit by gunfire on Wednesday.
- Three cars were shot on Wednesday morning. No one was injured. Calls came in from Trinity Road, Avent Ferry Road, Cary Towne Boulevard and Jones Franklin Road.
- A car was shot at before 6:30 a.m. on I-40 near Gorman Street. No injuries were reported.
- Two homes were shot at on Wolf Tech Lane and one home was shot at on Centennial Ridge Way.
- A home on Shire Lane was hit by bullets.
- Officers said they found five total .45-caliber shell casings, leading them to believe all the events were related.
Two vehicles were shot at and a woman was injured.
- A woman was shot in the leg along I-40 near Chapel Hill Road and Cary Towne Boulevard. She was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said a single bullet came through the driver door of the woman's car and injured both of her legs. According to the police, officers found a used .45-caliber shell casing on the shoulder of I-40 West near where the woman was shot.
- Police said there was another car hit on Monday near Buck Jones Road. No one was hurt.
