Pumpkins are on display and for sale at Hill Ridge Farms in Youngsville on October 15, 2011.

The Town of Cary and TechTank are teaming up for something they're calling Cary's Great Punkin' Chuck.

The event, set for Nov. 3, involves chucking pumpkins at, hopefully, great distances. Teams have until Tuesday, Oct. 15, to sign up to take part. The event challenges teams to use science and technology to create safe trebuchets to launch pumpkins at specific targets.

The smashed pumpkins will be collected and composted at the Compost Education Center in Bond Park. The event is noon to 5 p.m., Nov. 3, at Bond Park, 801 High House Rd., Cary.

Sounds like some messy, educational fun! In addition to the actual chucking, there also will be a mini-makers' faire with science and technology exhibits for all ages.
