Downtown Raleigh will be filled with music-lovers for Sept. 8 through the 10 as the city hosts Hopscotch music festival for its 11th year.

The music festival highlights indie pop artists, many who have spawned from across North Carolina.

Australian Singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett is headlining Hopscotch on Thursday this year. Barnett's music is a mix of folk and pop. She performs at 9:30 at City Plaza on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh.

Popular artist Perfume Genius, known for the song "Slip Away," is performing at City Plaza on Friday night at 9:45.

Perfume Genius the stage name for Michael Alden Hadreas. He is known for writing and performing songs about being a gay man in America and his struggle with Crohn's disease.

Finally, for the last night of Hopscotch, co-founder of the group Sonic Youth Kim Gordon is performing Saturday night at 9:30 at City Plaza.

Gordon is an alternative rock artist who's been performing since the 80s. She released her first solo album, No Record Home, in 2019.

The festival started in 2010 and has only taken one year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The festival returned in 2021 and required attendees to be fully vaccinated or provide a negative COVID-19 test.

On top of ticketed concerts, Hopscotch also provides club shows that are free from Sept. 8 - 10 at bars Pour House and Slims. These concerts are a chance for smaller artists to promote themselves.
