Middle Creek High School has selected its next athletic director.

Principal Wade Martin announced Wednesday that baseball coach Jeremy Thompson will take over as athletic director after Lewis Owens announced he plans to step down from the position at the end of the year.

Thompson has been at Middle Creek since 2005, teaching mathematics and serving as the head baseball coach. As the baseball coach, Thompson has been named the Tri-9 Coach of the Year three times. He was the 2012 Regional Coach of the Year after leading the Mustangs to the 4-A state championship.

"Coach Thompson's experiences as the CCSSL Summer Baseball League's co-commissioner, as a director of the All Star Games for the NCBCA, and as a head coach and teacher at Middle Creek High School have prepared him to be our next athletic director," Martin said.

"Coach Thompson's passion for high school athletics is very evident and he has built a successful baseball program at Middle Creek High School by having very high expectations for his players as student-athletes on and off the field," Martin continued. "He builds and maintains very positive relationships with his players and their families."

Thompson will take over as athletic director on July 1. Martin said Lewis and Thompson are working together on a transition plan this spring as Thompson finishes out the baseball season as the head coach.

"We feel very confident that Coach Thompson will help move Middle Creek athletics forward in a positive direction for our student-athletes, coaches and community," said Martin.
