A teenage girl died Saturday night after trying to run across a highway and getting hit by a truck.

A news release from the town of Nags Head states a 15-year-old girl tried to run from the west side of South Croatan Highway to the east side of the highway around 7:39 p.m. Saturday. When the girl entered the inside northbound lane, a 2018 Chevy Colorado hit her.

Three EMS employees started CPR on the girl and restored her pulse. However, the girl died of her injuries at the Outer Banks Hospital. Nags Head leaders have not identified the girl.

A 65-old-old man was driving the truck, according to the release. Police said speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. Authorities are not expected to bring charges against the driver.

The crash is still under investigation.

Police said the girl was visiting from Albania.
