A 17-year-old driver was seriously injured when his car ran off Old Raleigh Road and struck a barn Friday evening, state troopers said.

Troopers said that Jody Best's car hit a ditch, near Rock Ridge Sims Road, around 6:45 p.m., and he overcorrected twice. Best's car crashed into a barn and then flipped over.

Rescuers had to cut the car to extricate Best, and he was flown to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He was listed in serious condition Friday night.

Troopers said that Best was driving too fast along Old Raleigh. They planned to talk to Best before pressing any charges.

Best lives near the scene of the wreck, troopers said.
