Teen on skateboard killed by semi-truck in Catawba County

WCNC Charlotte reports a 15-year-old boy died Tuesday after he was hit by a semi-truck in Catawba County.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it happened around 3:50 p.m. along Caleb Road, northwest of the Denver community. Troopers said the teen was riding a makeshift skateboard and left his driveway, entering the roadway.

A 2011 Freightliner traveling south then hit the teen, critically injuring him. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Freightliner and a passenger inside were not injured. NCSHP says impairment and speed do not appear to be factors, and no charges will be filed.
