Tarboro policer officer OK after getting hit by driver during chase

The driver faces several charges, including fleeding to elude arrest.

A Tarboro police officer got hit by a driver trying to evade law enforcement on Tuesday, according to a release from the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office.

The release said the officer is OK after getting hit at the intersection of Western Boulevard and Howard Avenue.

The driver, Major Lamont Perry, faces several charges. It includes fleeing to elude arrest. Perry has a $15,000 bond.

On Tuesday, Edgecombe County sheriff’s deputies clocked Perry driving a dark gray Dodge Charger at “a high rate of speed” near Springfield Road. Deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop, but Perry did not stop. The chase ensued to the town of Tarboro where police joined the pursuit.

On Tuesday night, an off-duty deputed noticed the Charger at Perry’s home in the city of Rocky Mount. Rocky Mount police officers and Edgecombe County deputies arrested Perry without incident.
