Tarantulas take center-stage at BugFest

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will host its annual bug-centric celebration, BugFest, on Saturday, Sept. 16.

From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., there will be bug experts on-hand and games and activities including Stag Beetle Battles and live cockroach racing at the Roachingham 500). The free event will also include live music and presentations.

This year's featured bug is the tarantula.

For those wanting to sample some bug cuisine, Café Insecta will feature local restaurants serving up free bug-filled dishes including Bugnana Pudding and Kickin’ Cricket Chicken Salad.

At 5 p.m., enjoy a free screening of the 1955 movie “Tarantula."
