Goldsboro's Caleb Sasser performs during knockout round of 'The Voice'

Goldsboro native Caleb Sasser's run on "The Voice" is over, but he was able to show off his talents on stage a final time.

Sasser performed during the show's "Knockouts" rounds Monday night. He chose a song that highlighted his higher voice register, "Jealous" by Nick Jonas.

Unfortunately, Sasser didn't win the Knockout round, and no one chose to "steal or save" him and ultimately keep him in the competition.

In October, Sasser, who has ties to Goldsboro and Pembroke, got all four coaches to turn their chairs for his rendition of "Another Sad Love Song" by Toni Braxton.

He got the hard sell from all of the coaches, but when it came down to it, Sasser decided to go with John Legend's team.

"After making the show, I was really excited," Sasser said when he made it past auditions. "This is something that I've been trying to audition for and trying to make it to this level for four years. I also was feeling like it was a dream and that I was gonna wake up. So to actually be here, it's a blessing."

Sasser said he grew up singing at church with his mom, dad and sisters in the choir. After high school, he studied music at UNC Pembroke, where he met his girlfriend, Deandrea, an opera singer.

In 2021, Sasser and Deandrea decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue music. Within a few months, he was performing in Ye's (formerly known as Kanye West) Sunday Service at the Colosseum for the Free Larry Hoover concert with Drake and Ye, and with Alicia Keys' choir at the Greek Theater.

Now, he teaches voice and piano to middle schoolers.

"What excites me most about working with John is that I have been listening to his music for years," Sasser said when asked about his decision to join Team Legend. "I have been studying his sound and how he writes. I'm hoping that whenever we get together that he'll be able to teach me some own storytelling and how to further my my writing and my artistry."

Crediting his southern upbringing, Sasser said he loves to cook. Now, he cooks Deandrea different dishes every week.

Sasser said living in Los Angeles makes him feel a bit like a fish out of water, but he tries to keep roots alive in his mom's cooking and his singing.
