Take the Kids: Sarah King takes her kid to check out the new Dino Safari in Raleigh

On Wednesday, my son and I took a trip in my 2010 Prius to another continent and another time! We got a sneak peek of Dino Safari, a drive-through adventure that's at the NC State Fairgrounds through March 7.

As we headed into the exhibit's fictional Pangea National Park, I had to reassure my five-year-old son that these dinosaurs weren’t real. I couldn’t blame him for mistaking them for real animals. These dinosaurs were MASSIVE, complete with fur, feathers, claws and loads of giant sharp teeth! The lights and plants really made the whole scene come to life. By the time we winded our way through Pangea, we had forgotten we were at the fairgrounds!

What impressed me most about this exhibit is how they made all the facts about dinosaurs accessible and interactive. When you arrive, you’re given a Survival Pack with toys and items that will enhance your journey through Pangea.

Once you start the audio tour on your smartphone, Ranger Justin begins giving you all the facts about dinosaurs. They were fascinating. My son loved the audio tour, especially the part when he got to rescue the Mama T-Rex’s baby egg by tossing it back to her and the Dino Safari song.

He’s been roaring the lyrics since we’ve got home. A little repetitive, yes, but seeing him enjoy a scientific exhibit made it well worth the constant lyrical repeats!

With the weeks of rain we’ve been experiencing, the safari is the perfect antidote.

Tickets are available at www.dinosafari.com. They are sold per carload: $49 for a car of up to 7 people, $59 for cars for 8 or more. Each ticket includes entrance to the drive-thru park and a Survival Pack featuring a “Park Passport” scavenger hunt and other fun surprises! You can also purchase a Mystery Bag at checkout. The “Adventure Mystery Bag” and “Expedition Mystery Bag” each include a variety of themed toys and takeaways for kids of all ages. If you have a dino lover in your family, it’s a must see for sure! It's open rain or shine.

Sarah is the mom of one and part of MIX Mornings with Kyle, Bryan, and Sarah. Take the Kids is a regular Friday feature on Go Ask Mom.
