Take the Kids: Nasher Museusm of Art

Teacher workdays are great for small adventures with my daughters. The latest led us to Duke University's Nasher Museum of Art in Durham. It was our first visit. We enjoyed our time discovering new-to-us artwork & having lunch at The Nasher Museum Café.

The museum is located at 2001 Campus Drive in Durham.

Know before you go:

1. Admission is free but there is a parking fee. The cost is $2/hour. You can pay with a credit/debit card or cash.

2. Upon entering the museum, check in at the front desk. You'll be given a sticker that must be worn and visible at all times. There's also a designated area to leave umbrellas, etc.

3. Taking pictures is allowed but no flash photography. And in the case of video content, do so without the use of tripods, monopods, etc. Although the one I use is only the length of my hand, I was asked to record without it. Find full guidelines at the bottom of the admission and hours page.

4. If you'd like to purchase a souvenir, The Nasher Museum Store has books, stuffed animals, jewelry, etc. There's something for various ages.

5. The Nasher Museum Café is perfect for a quick bite or to linger a while. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. We chose to sit inside. Observing the architecture and feeling the sun pour in through the large windows was amazing. It was a perfect vibe in which to enjoy our meals. If you're curious, we ordered:

• Smoked Salmon Sandwich with a side of potato salad
• Lemon Linguine
• Nasher Burger with a quinoa salad

6. Restrooms are around the corner from the museum store & café.

My daughters and I hope to visit again. I didn't see anything concerning upcoming holiday activities but there will be new exhibits to explore. This is a good place to go with visiting family members and friends.
