Two people are in custody following a high-speed chase through three counties Sunday morning.

According to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, authorities began chasing a female driver near mile marker 170 on Interstate 95 in Northampton County at about 7:40 a.m.

Authorities said a male passenger in the car attempted to slouch down and remain unseen as the driver reached speeds up to 130 mph as they traveled for 40 miles down I-95.

The driver continued through Halifax County and into Nash County, where deputies set up stop sticks along the exits in an attempt to end the chase.

The stop sticks punctured the tires of the car near mile marker 132, causing the tires to fall off, but the woman continued driving, deputies said.

Just after 8 a.m., authorities used a pit maneuver to end the chase and the man and woman were taken into custody.

Authorities have not identified the suspect, but said they could face charges from multiple counties.
