Suspected child sex offender facing more charges following high-speed chase

Wake County deputies on Tuesday arrested a suspected child sex offender in Wendell who they say led them on a chase.

According to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, the chase started around 4:57 p.m. along Old Bunch Road. Deputies tried to stop the car, but Rayshon Nelson Treadwell, who was wanted on multiple felony counts, did not stop driving.

Deputies chased the car to the area of Riley Hill Road and Winchester Drive, when they say the driver jumped and ran from the car. Stop sticks were set up on Winchester Drive, but it was along Woodie Drive where authorities finally caught up with Treadwell.

Deputies took Treadwell, 41, into custody. They said Treadwell was wanted on 28 counts of statutory sex offense with a child.

Treadwell was charged with:

  • statutory sex offense with a child by an adult
  • solicitation of prostitution
  • resisting public officer
  • communicating threats (out of Warren County)
  • flee/elude arrest
  • driving with a revoked license
  • possession of an open container in the passenger area
  • speeding
  • reckless driving to endanger

Two deputies crashed their cars during the chase. One of the deputies sustained minor injuries. Sky 5 flew over the scene where authorities were searching for Treadwell.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.
