Suspect in convenience store owner's death caught in S.C.

A man sought in the shooting death last month of a Fayetteville convenience store owner was apprehended Wednesday in South Carolina, police said.

Members of the Violent Fugitives Task Force, which includes local, state and federal law enforcement agents, found Michael Antoine McLaurin, 27, hiding in a wooded area of Darlington County, S.C. He is being held in jail there pending extradition to Fayetteville.

McLaurin is charged with first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The charges stem from the June 27 slaying of Waheed Abdulla, 30, the owner of Ya-Ya Food Mart, 3122 Murchison Road. Police said Abdulla went outside to break up a disturbance and was hit by a stray bullet.

A second man, Shane Tradale Johnson, 20, of 545 Hilliard Drive in Fayetteville, is wanted on a charge of  involuntary manslaughter in the case.
