Suspect arrested, charged in Saturday carjacking that injured a K-9 unit
A suspect was arrested Monday following a carjacking that left a K-9 officer injured Saturday in Cary.
According to Cary police, Joshua Andrei Whittlesey of Cary, 24, was arrested Monday in his apartment complex in Burlington.
Whittlesey is accused of carjacking at a Ford dealership near Highway 64. When officers arrived and told Whittlesey to get out of the truck, he attempted to drive at the officers at a high-rate of speed.
Officers jumped out of the way, but K-9 officer Dakota was hit by the car.
Whittlesey later abandoned the truck in Raleigh.
Whittlesey was transported back to Cary and charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including:
Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
Larceny of Motor Vehicle
Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest
Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
Assaulting a Law Enforcement Agency Animal
Assault by Pointing a Gun
Hit and Run
Assault on Law Enforcement Officers
Resisting, Delaying, and Obstructing an Officer
K-9 officer Dakota is currently receiving medical treatment and is recovering at a local veterinary hospital. There is no court date set for Whittlesey.
