Five years ago, the North Carolina State Fair rolled out a promotional program that let advance ticket buyers support Wake County schools when they keyed in a special school code as they purchased their tickets online.

In 2018, that Tools for Schools program has expanded. This year, with your fair ticket purchases, you can support both Wake and Edgecombe County public schools.

Here's the deal, according to the fair's website: "For every Adult FastTrack Gate Admission Ticket purchased using a school code, the State Fair will donate $2 to the school. For every Child FastTrack Gate Admission purchased using a school code, the State Fair will donate $1 to the school."

To help out your local school, just key in the school code under "Membership" at check out on the Tools for Schools link.

You can find school codes online for Wake schools here and Edgecombe schools here.

This promotion is only available online in advance of the fair, according to the fair's website. Tickets must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11.

Buying advance tickets lets fairgoers save a little money and skip the ticketing line at the fair gates. It applies only to admission and not carnival rides or the State Fair Flyer.

The 2018 State Fair is Oct. 11 to Oct. 21 in Raleigh.
