Sun to return to the Triangle after wet weekend
The rain that soaked much of the Triangle on Sunday has moved out of the area, and sunshine will return to the region Monday although it will be cool.
WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said a high-pressure system will settle over the area, bringing clear skies and sunny skies after 9 a.m.
"The rest of the day looks nice and quiet," she said.
Temperatures near the North Carolina/Virginia border were near the freezing mark and motorists were warned to be aware of possible slick spots on bridges and overpasses. The Mecklenburg County school system delayed the start of its class time by two hours. Caswell County schools also pushed the start of its school time by three hours.
The mercury was in the mid-30s for much of the Triangle, with temperatures expected to rise to the mid-40s.
Gardner said Monday and Tuesday will be dry before wet weather returns to the area mid-week.
"Rain will be back on Wednesday during the second half of the day," Gardner said.
