Car burst into flames after debris falls off truck in Johnston County

A car was hit Wednesday evening by a large steel spool of PVC piping in Johnston County.

According to officials at the scene, a large steel spool carrying PVC piping fell off a trailer and crashed into an oncoming car on Buffalo Road just outside of Selma.

Moments later, the car was engulfed in flames.

The driver of the car escaped the car just before it "blew up." The driver was not harmed.

The driver of the pickup carrying the piping was charge with failure to secure a load and driving without an operator's license.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the incident.
