State Troopers Look For Leads In Deadly Tree-Cutting Incident

Last week, someone played a deadly prank whichclaimed the life of a motorcyclist. Friday, investigators returned to the scene of the crime to look for any leads in the case.

State troopersestablished a checkpoint on Munn Road Friday. They are asking drivers if they have any information about a tree-cutting prank that took the life of Pete Hicks.

Hicks was riding his motorcycle on Munn Road when he hit a tree that had been laying across the road. Granville County police say the tree was deliberately cut so that it would fall across the road.

State troopers say someone out there knows something.

"People get a little nervous talking around law enforcement, but when you have an incident where someone was killed, you need to come forward," says state trooper S.E. McHenry. "We need to find out what is going on. We need to seek some closure for the family."

State troopers say they received some leads at an earlier checkpoint on state Route 50 Tuesday night.

The reward for information leading to an arrest in the case is up to $8,500. It includes $7,500 from Hicks' family and friends and $1,000 from Granville County Crimestoppers.
