State Capitol, NC Executive Mansion hold holiday open houses this week
Holiday open houses at both the State Capitol and N.C. Executive Mansion, home to the governor, are this week. These are an easy way to see some gorgeous Christmas decorations and learn a little bit about the history of our state.
Here's what's happening:
State Capitol Holiday Open House
It all starts at 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, with luminaries and holiday music. At 6:15 p.m., Gov. Roy Cooper will participate in an annual tree-lighting tradition. There will be cookies and hot chocolate, along with a visit from Santa.
At 6:30 p.m., the State Capitol's open house will begin with music, holiday decorations and more. The open house will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 13 and Dec. 14.
The State Capitol is at 1 E. Edenton St., Raleigh.
N.C. Executive Mansion Holiday Open House
The holiday open house is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14; and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15.
The holiday open house is one of the few times the house is open to the general public. Visitors can see the first floor, which will be decorated with a variety of massive Christmas trees. Holiday music from local groups also is scheduled.
The Executive Mansion is at 200 N. Blount St., within easy walking distance of the State Capitol.
All of these events are free, open to the public and do not require registration. Both are kid friendly, but neither are interactive. It's mostly looking at the decorations and listening to the music.
