Big weekend of events in and around Raleigh

Sports fans and music lovers will have plenty to choose from in Raleigh this weekend. Several large-scale events are taking place, including the NC State football game, the NC Courage home game, the International Auto Expo, and the Hopscotch Music Festival.

The Hopscotch Music Festival is expected to draw hundreds of people to downtown Raleigh. Food trucks will be lining the streets and music will play on the main stage. However, there was a weather delay on Friday, so organizers had to take a break between acts.

City leaders say that the multiple events in Raleigh are expected to fill up hotels and draw visitors from all over to experience the city. This is known as the "spillover effect," as people who come to downtown Raleigh for a big event often also visit businesses and nearby bars and restaurants.

Angry Bar owner Kyle Taylor, located on Fayetteville Street, reports that he sees an increase in weekend sales when major events occur.

"It's awesome," Taylor said. "There are just way more things for people to do. We're just a bar, but we have the most fun when great things are happening around us."

As Raleigh grows, city leaders anticipate that the capital will host more large-scale events. So even if the weather doesn't cooperate this weekend, there's still plenty to see and do in the city.

Here are some specific things to do in Raleigh this weekend:

  • Attend the NC State football game at Carter-Finley Stadium.
  • Cheer on the NC Courage at their home game.
  • Explore the International Auto Expo at the Raleigh Convention Center.
  • Enjoy live music at the Hopscotch Music Festival.
  • Visit local businesses and restaurants in downtown Raleigh.
