In the face of slow adoptions, the SPCA of Wake County is offering an unusual incentive to help shelter dogs find loving homes.

As part of their "Dogs in Duckie Pajamas" promotion, all adult dog adoptions through the end of April will include a pair of PJs for the dogs to take home.

Samantha Ranlet, a spokesperson for SPCA Wake, said shelter dogs are often misunderstood.

"When they’re in a shelter environment, and they’re not even wearing a collar, it’s harder to see their full potential," she said. “It’s easy to judge a book by its cover.”

SPCA Wake hopes the playful promotion will inspire the community’s interest and help potential adopters see beyond appearances to the gentle hearts within.

"At the end of the day, these dogs just want love and a warm place to sleep," Ranlet said. "Sometimes it just takes some silly pajamas to prove it."

The adoption promotion comes on the heels of a capacity crisis impacting animal shelters nationwide.

"Adopting a pet from SPCA Wake not only gives that pet a second chance, it also opens the door for us to save another life," Ranlet said.

The Dogs in Duckie Pajamas special ends April 30. The promotion is valid for all dogs older than seven months. Visit spcawake.org/dogs to view SPCA Wake’s adoptable dogs, or stop by the SPCA’s Pet Adoption Center at 200 Petfinder Lane in Raleigh from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. any day of the week.
