Son arrested after allegedly shooting mother in Halifax County

Halifax County deputies arrested a man Thursday for allegedly shooting his mother.

Deputies responded around 7:20 a.m. to the 100 block of Hedgepeth Road in Halifax, to reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a 58-year-old woman had been shot by her son.

Bryan Dereck Clements, 34, was arrested on scene and charged with the following:

• Assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury
• Felony possession of schedule I controlled substance
• Possession of drug paraphernalia

Clements was placed in Halifax County Detention Center without bond and had a court date pending for Tuesday.

The victim has been transported to a trauma unit in serious condition.

Investigation continues to determine the motive of the incident.
