Soldier shot in drive-by on Fort Bragg

The search for a gunman who wounded a soldier in a drive-by shooting shut down Fort Bragg early Sunday, a military spokesman said.

Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum said that a 23-year-old soldier was driving on Yadkin Road along the outskirts of the post around 3 a.m. when another motorist fired numerous rounds into his vehicle.

The soldier was struck in the arm and was treated at Womack Army Medical Center, McCollum said. His name hasn't been released.

Military police issued an alert for a silver Chevrolet Impala and shut down traffic into and from the post immediately after the shooting. Police continued to inspect outbound vehicles into Sunday morning.

Investigators collected evidence along Yadkin Road, between Stabo Loop and Canopy Lane.

The Army's Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation.
